25 Years of One Family Bringing Christmas to Catonsville

In 1994 Greg Morgan pitched the idea of an annual community Christmas tree lighting to the fire department and the rest is 25 years of history!  Each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, 1,000-1,500 residents gather at the corner of Frederick Road and Egges Lane for cookies, hot chocolate, the chance to meet Santa and of course, the annual tree lighting.

From the beginning, Morgan’s goal has been to make it a free family event for local residents to celebrate the start of the holiday season.  Morgan is in charge of the tree lighting and with the help of the Catonsville Chamber of Commerce’s Santa House Committee, the local government who lends the stage for speakers and performers and the State Highway Administration for closing Frederick Road, this free event has been a favorite of the residents since it’s inaugural year.
